Joining the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) as a Project Power Coach has been one of the most significant milestones in my career. It’s not just a role—it’s a commitment to a cause that resonates deeply with me. My life’s work in integrative medicine, nutrition, and dietetics has led me to this point, where I can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes.
Nutrition: The Heart of Diabetes Management
At the core of diabetes management lies the importance of nutrition. My academic and professional journey in nutrition and dietetics has equipped me with the knowledge to demystify the complex world of dietary choices. I believe that nutrition isn’t just a tool for managing diabetes—it’s the foundation of a healthier, more vibrant life.
Through Polat Health, my own practice, I’ve developed a Diabetes Prevention Program designed to empower individuals at risk of diabetes. As a CDC-Certified Diabetes Prevention Coach, I work closely with participants to help them make sustainable lifestyle changes. Our program focuses on holistic nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral adjustments, all tailored to the unique needs of each individual. This approach is about more than just managing blood sugar levels; it’s about creating a comprehensive plan that supports overall well-being.
Integrating Holistic Health in Diabetes Care
My background in integrative medicine allows me to go beyond traditional healthcare. With a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nutrition and Dietetics and specialized training in integrative medicine, I combine evidence-based practices with personalized nutritional strategies. This holistic approach is central to both my work at Polat Health and my role as a Project Power Coach with the ADA.
The Project Power program is an innovative community-based initiative aimed at reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. This year-long program offers participants the education, resources, and support needed to make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives. It’s not just about teaching; it’s about empowering people to take control of their health and make choices that lead to a healthier future.
A Personal Journey to Holistic Health
My journey into holistic health began with a simple realization: treating symptoms isn’t enough. To truly help people, we need to treat the whole person. This philosophy is especially important in diabetes care, where factors like diet, exercise, stress, and emotional health are deeply interconnected.
As a Project Power Coach, I’m dedicated to helping participants understand and embrace this holistic approach. I guide them in making balanced, sustainable lifestyle changes that go beyond managing diabetes to enhancing overall well-being. This work is deeply personal to me, and I’m committed to supporting each participant on their path to better health.
Education is a powerful tool in the fight against diabetes. At Polat Health, and within the Project Power program, we emphasize the importance of understanding how lifestyle choices impact health. Through comprehensive education on nutrition, physical activity, and holistic health practices, we empower participants to take charge of their health.
Our Diabetes Prevention Program at Polat Health covers a wide range of topics, from meal planning and grocery shopping tips to stress management and physical activity. This interactive and supportive program ensures that participants not only learn but also feel motivated to apply these insights to their daily lives.
